Warsaw Pact a military alliance formed in 1955 by the Soviet Union and seven Eastern European Countries
Cold War the state of diplomatic hostility between the United States and the Soviet Union in the decades following WW 2.
Containment a US foreign policy adopted by President Truman in the late 40’s, in which the US tried to stop the spread of communism by creating alliances and helping weak countries to resist Soviet Advances.
Détente a policy of reducing Cold War tensions that was adopted by the US during the presidency of Richard Nixon.
Apartheid a South African policy of complete legal separation of the races, including the banning of all social contact between blacks and whites.
iron curtain during the Cold War, the boundary separating the communist nations of Eastern Europe from the mostly democratic nations of Western Europe.

Politburo the ruling committee of the Communist Party in the Soviet Union
