Geography terms and Hinduism

| Subcontinent | Large landmass that is part of a continent, but is geographically separate from it. |
| Himalayas | The highest mountain range in the world |
| Northern Plains | A region that lies between the Himalayas and southern India, stretching from the Ganges to the Indus river valley. |
| Delta | Triangular deposit of soil at the mouth of a river. |
| Deccan Plateau | A plain region that make up most of southern India. It contains mineral deposits, as well as forests. |
| Archipelago | A group of islands. |
| Monsoon | Seasonal winds that blows over the Northern part of Indian Ocean (heavy rains) or from the Northeast part of the continent (very dry weather conditions) |
| Mohenjo-Daro | Large ancient city from the Harappan civilization in the Indus river valley. |
| Hinduism | One of the oldest religions in the world, based on certain Aryan practices. |
| Aryans | Etnic group who migrated from Southern Russia through passes in the Himalayas. They brought their own traditions and beliefs to India. |
| Sanskrit | An ancient language spoken by the Aryans. |
| Vedas | Books of knowledge containing writings on prayers, hymns, religious rituals and philosophy. |
| Caste System | Social class system division in Hinduism. Based on four major classes: Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas y Shudras |
| Outcasts (Untouchables) | Traditionally considered inferior to the four major castes. |
| Ashoka | The most famous emperor of the Mauryan Dinasty, who created a unified government. |
| Purushartas | The Four Goals of Life |
| Dharma | Correct living through virtue |
| Kama | The pleasure of th senses |
| Artha | The lawful pursuit of material gain and success. |
| Moksha | Release frm reincarnation, or rebirth |
| Karma | The effect of actions of the past and present life-times, both good and bad on one's present life. |
