Who was Hatshepsut A woman pharoah who encouraged trade with the eastern Mediterranean and along the coast of Africa.
Who was Ramses II? The most powerful ruler of the new kingdom. He pushed Egyptian rule northward all the way to Syria.
What happened in the Old Kingdom of Egypt? The Pyramids were built.
What happened in the Middle Kingdom of Egypt? There was great struggle and crop failure. The Hyksos took over the delta region. Also the Hyskos introduced the horse drawn chariot to the Egyptians.
What happened in the New Kingdom of Egypt? Egyptian rule was pushed all the way to Syria
What is a vizier? Chief Minister who supervised the business of government in ancient Egypt.
What lead to the fall of Egypt? They were conquered by the Assyrians, Persians, Greek, and Romans
What is the story of Osiris and Isis? Osiris ruled Egypt until his brother Set killed him. Osiris was cut up and thrown around Egypt. His wife Isis saved him by picking up all of the pieces. Osiris became the God of the afterlife and Judges souls.
Who is Amon-Re? the sun God
Who was Akhenaton? A pharaoh who challenged Amon-Re. He worshipped Aton, a minor God. He tried to wipe out all other gods.
Who was Jean Champollion? French scholar who decoded Egyptian hieroglyphics using the Rosetta Stone.
What are some achievements of ancient Egyptians? The Sphinx, the Pyramids, and the Calendar.
Who invaded the Egyptians in 1700 B.C? The Hyskos
What was the relationship between Egypt and Nubia? They traded and fought with each other for centuries.
What is the Epic of Gilgamesh? A Sumerian narrative poem descrcibing the afterlife.

What did the Hittites do? Learned how to make tools/weapons out of iron form ore.
Who was Darius and what did he do? King of Persia who started the use of coins, and created a strong government
What were the Phoenicians known for? They were known for trade, and creating the first alphabet.
What is the sacred text of the Jews? the Torah
Who was Abraham? Migrated with his family to Canaan, and is considered the founder of the Israelite nation.
What does Patriarchal mean? A family lead by the father, husband, or oldest male.
Diaspora the scattering of people
Monsoon seasonal wind; winter = hot and dry, summer = rain
What evidence shows that Indus Valley civilization was organized? Each city was laid out in a grid pattern, and all houses were built out of uniform oven fired clay bricks.
What was the Vedas? A collection of Aryan prayers, hymns, and other religious teachings.
What were the three basic groups of people in Aryan. Brahmins (priests), Kshatriyas (warriors), and Vaisyas (farmers, artisans, etc.)
