Liberty Ship The basic cargo ship used during the war.
Fascism Political system headed by a dictator that calls for extreme nationalism, and racism, and no tolerance of opposition.
Internationalism National policy of actively trading with foreign countries to foster peace and prosperity.
Appeasement Accepting demands in order to avoid conflict.
Blitzkrieg Name given to sudden violent offensive attacks the Germans used during World War 2;"lightning war".
Holocaust Name given to the mass slaughter of Jews and other groups by the Nazis during World War 2.
Concentration/Extermination camp A camp where persons are detained or confined.
Strategic materials Materials needed for fighting a war.
Cost Plus A government contract to pay a manufacturer the cost to produce an item plus a guaranted percentage.
Disenfranchise To deprive of the right to vote.
Rationing The giving out of scarce items on a limited basis.
Victory Garden Gardens planted by American citizens during war to raise vegetables for home use, leaving more for the troops.
Napalm A jellied gasoline used for bombs
Convoy system A system in which merchant ships travel with naval vessels for protection.
Amphtrac An amphibious tractor used to move troops from ship to shore.
Kamikaze During World War 2, a Japanese suicide pilot whose mission was to crash into his target.
Hedgerow Row of shrubs or trees surrounding a field, often on a dirt wall.
Charter A constitution.
