how did people travel on the silk roads? caravans didnt cover all the 5000 miles
what happned to the nomadic groups in central asia as trade increased along the silk roads? adopted new cultures and built villages
what was life like for the arab bedouins? life was hard, there was compitition for water and grazing, and it often led to warfare-clans
where did islam spread and how did it spread? islam spread to northwest africa, the east coast of africa, the middle east and south west asia and parts of europe. it spread due to trade.
what happned to cause europe to enter the medieval/middle ages? the fall of the roman empire
how did european fuedalism work? the local lord divided his land and gave it to lesser lords- in return teh lessser lords called vassils pledged services and loyality to the greater lord.
why was constantinople so important? becaus eit was the canter of all trade, controlled trade, lies between 3 bodies of water, if you wanted to trade you had to go through constantinople
why was the byzantine empire so important? it blanded anciemt greek, roman, and christian inflluences and other traditions of the mediterranean sea, lasted past the fall of the roman empire
what problems grew between christianity? rivalry among the patriarchs,bishops began to claim athority and there was an emergence of heresies divide churches westland east
why were people prejudiced against non-christians in europe? diffrent people believed in diffrent religions and things, they thought chrisitans were getting to powerful and they has to many followers so they killed them, they also thought jesus was a threat. unitifies-church
what was a vikings life like? hard, they were pagin,polytheistic and they believe in after lifes
how did christianity spread in europe? because missionaries would journey around the mediterranean sea and set up churches in diffrent places to spread christianity
what are some of the reasons for the crusades for the holy lands of jerusalem? religious zeal, win wealth and land escape troubles at home they yeld for adventure and dthey believed that there sins wpuld be foregiven
how did geography and technology impact the spread of the bantu language throughout africa? the interior of afria was untravelable however the great rift valley served as a highway for travel. iron- teconology.
why was ghana powerful? because they were the center of trade for salt and gold trade. and they taxed whoever came through
what made trans-sahara trade so difficult and how did people complete the journey? it was difficult because it was hot, dryh and big. they were able to complete the journey because they traveled in caravans
how did islam change wenst african kingdoms? they introduced there language and business methods it started spreading slowly at first and they became a main religion
how sis islam come to east africa? through ocean trade routes and ports
what made indian ocean trade networks possible? monsoon winds
what kinds of items were traded around the indian ocean? gold, spices, bananas, sugar, tea, slaves, ivory
how did china rise after 400 years of chaos? farm production expanded, technology slowly improved, buddhism spread, learning and arts continued to flourish, and cities survived
what problems did the chinese emperor have in choosing people for his government? they just had to take civil service exam so they could be corrupt
what was the purpose of the chinese civil service exam? to recruit more talented officials trained in confusion philosphy
why did the song dynasty get smaller? the northern invaders (mongols) kept pushing them south
where did buddhism spread and how?
how did the chinese government try to help their peasants? by taking land from wealthy landowners and distributing it to peasants which is called the land reform.
how was japan similar to china? it was similar because china influenced then in alot of things like language, arts, government and beleif system
how was japan different from china? traditions and teachnology
how were japanese and european feudalism similar? peasants at the bottom, kings at top large landowners, warriors, loyalty
how were japanese and european feudalism different? japan king had no power, and merchants and artisans at the bottom
how were the mongols able to rise to power?
where did the mongol empire take over? Asia and europe
what were some consequences of mongol rule? fighting, black death, silk road
How did the black death lead to the end of feudalism in europe? normal life was broken down and the economy was destroyed
