What was the First Crusade? The capturing of cities, in hopes to conquer Jerusalem.
What did Pope Urban hope to accomplish with the Crusades? That the Crusades would reunite the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church in Constantinople.
What important cities did the First Crusade conquer? Antinoch and Jerusalem. But, both cities both quickly fell back under control of the Arabs.
Through the year 1204 C.E., how many crusades failed to produce results? What was the result of this? Four. The Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church separated even further.
What happened in the Fourth Crusade? The Catholic Church took over Constantinople and established a short-lived Latin Empire.
What did the Crusades illustrate in connection with religion? They showed that religion, when combined with conquest and feelings of superiority, can be a very bloody enterprise.
What effect did the Crusades have on Europe? They led to interactions between cultures that would not have otherwise interacted.
How many Crusades were there total? There were nine Crusades.
