Knowledge and philosophy They created the House of Wisdom which also helped them add to mathematics; algebra and medicine; discovery of asthma and the medical encyclopedia.
Mathematics One Muslim, al-Khawarizmi wrote a book, which was translated into many languages, creating algebra. Their value for x was also universalized.
Astronomy and navigation Built observatories, studied stars, perfected the astrolabe, calculated the length of a year, and mapped stars.
Medicine Al-Razi wrote medical works; Ibn Sina wrote a medical encyclopedia and explained disease transmission through contaminated water.
Literature The Qur’an was regarded as Islam’s greatest literary work and the Holy Book of Islam; Omar Khayyam wrote poetry; One Thousand and One Nights became a major story collection.
Art and architecture Used geometric/floral arabesques and blended Arab, Greco-Roman, Turkish, and Persian traditions. Examples include Samarra, Córdoba, the Blue Mosque, and Alhambra.
