Body Planes Directio

TermDefinition
Distal Body parts away from the point of reference
Transverse Horizontal plane that divides the body into a top and bottom half
Lateral Body parts away from the midline
Inferior Body parts below the transverse plane
Ventral or Anterior Body parts on the front of the body
Midsaggital Plane that divides the body into a right and left side
Proximal Body parts close to the point of reference
Cranial Body parts located near the head
Superior Body parts above the transverse plane
Dorsal or Posterior Body parts on the back of the body
Medial Body parts close to the midline
Caudal Body parts located near the sacral region or tail
Frontal Plane that divides the body into a front and back section
Bilateral Affects both sides of the body
Superficial Structures near the body surface
