| controlled medication | a drug that is more likely than others to be abused or to cause addiction. |
| drug interaction | a situation in which a drug, dietary supplement, food, beverage, or health condition affects how a drug works in a person’s body. |
| controlled release | a type of medication designed for continuous release over time. |
| route of administration | the path that gets a drug into the body. |
| parenteral route | a route of medication administration that does not involve the digestive tract (e.g., injections). |
| intradermal (ID) injection | an injection given just underneath the outer layer of skin. |
| subcutaneous (subcut) injections | an injection given under the skin, in the fat layer above the muscle. |
| intramuscular (IM) injection) | an injection given in the muscle, usually in the upper arm, thigh, or hip. |
