| sinoatrial node | part of the electrical conduction system of the heart, located in the upper part of the right atrium and acting as the primary pacemaker of the heart; also called the SA node or sinus node. |
| electrode | in health care, a pad that conducts electricity and is connected to the patient’s body to conduct electrical signals from the body to a machine (e.g., an EKG machine) that interprets the signals. |
| lead | in an EKG, the imaginary line between two electrodes attached to the patient; each lead produces a different EKG tracing and a different view of the heart’s electrical activity. |
| normal sinus rhythm (NSR) | cardiac rhythm produced when the electrical system of the heart is functioning normally. |
| 12-lead EKG | a common type of EKG that records the electrical activity of the heart in 12 different directions (leads). |
| limb leads | in electrocardiography, the lead group made up of leads I, II, and III; also known as the bipolar leads. |
| augmented limb leads | in electrocardiography, the collective name for leads aVR, aVL, and aVF. |
| precordial leads | in electrocardiography, the unipolar lead group composed of leads V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, and V6; also known as the chest leads. |
