| Alogia (ă•lŏ’jē•ă) | Inability to speak owing to a mental condition or a symptom of dementia. |
| Amygdala (ă•mig’dă•lă) | Almond-shaped section of the brain used to form emotional reactions. |
| Avolition (ă•vō•lĭsh’ŭn) | Lack of motivation for work or other goal-oriented activity. |
| Catatonia (kăt”ă•tō’nē•ă) | Abnormality of movement and behavior arising from a disturbed mental state. |
| Decompensate (dē•kŏm’pĕn•sāt) | Inability to maintain defense mechanisms in response to stress, resulting in personality disturbance or psychological imbalance. |
