| Idiopathic (ID-ee-oh-PATH-ik) | No known specific causes; it just happens |
| Sagittal (SAJ-ih-tal) | Divides the body along a hypothetical plane from right to left. Saggita is Latin for arrow; think of this as dividing the body in half, as if someone shot an arrow toward it. |
| NPO | Nil Per Os (Nothing by Mouth) |
| WDWN | Well Developed, Well Nourished (the patient is growing or has grown appropriately and does not appear to be malnourished) |
| QID | Four Times Daily (From the Latin phrase Quater in die, which means "four in a day" |
| Dorsum (DOR-sum) | the top of the hand or foot |
| Differential Diagnosis (DIF-eh-REN-chal DAI-ag-NOS-sis) | a list of conditions the patient may have based on the symptoms exhibited and the results of the exam |
