| Indulgences – | Payments people made to the Church that were supposed to reduce punishment for sins. |
| King Henry VIII – | The king of England who broke away from the Catholic Church and created the Church of England. |
| Francis Xavier – | A Jesuit missionary who spread Christianity to Asia and India. |
| Martin Luther – | A German monk who started the Protestant Reformation by criticizing problems in the Catholic Church. |
| Missionaries – | People who travel to different places to spread their religion. |
| Protestants – | Christians who broke away from the Catholic Church during the Reformation. |
| Ignatius of Loyola – | The founder of the Jesuits who helped reform and strengthen the Catholic Church. |
