Humanism — A way of thinking during the Renaissance that focused on learning and people’s abilities.
Leonardo da Vinci — A famous artist and inventor who painted the Mona Lisa.
Masterpiece — A person’s greatest or best work of art.
Medici family — A rich family in Florence that supported artists and helped the Renaissance grow.
Renaissance — A time in Europe when art, learning, and new ideas became very important again.
Michelangelo — A famous artist who painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling and made sculptures.
Florence — An Italian city where the Renaissance began.
Raphael — A Renaissance painter known for beautiful paintings of people.
Patrons — Rich people who paid artists to create art.
Marco Polo — An explorer who traveled to Asia and wrote about his journeys.
Venice — A wealthy Italian city known for trade and canals.Niccolò Machiavelli — A writer who believed leaders should do what is needed to keep power.
Perspective — An art method that makes pictures look deep and realistic.
Interest —Money paid for borrowing money.
Florence — A city in Italy famous for art and learning during the Renaissance.
Petrarch — A scholar known as the “Father of Humanism.”
