clonus alternate muscular contraction and relaxation in rapid succession.
Clonic generally used in conjunction with the term tonic, which means normal tone.
Parkinson disease characterized by four features: slowness and absence of movement, muscular rigidity, resting tremor, and unstable posture.
Rigidity means stiffness or inflexibility.
Charley horse a bruised or torn muscle of quadriceps muscle
tonic/clonic muscle response to seizure activity
tetanus a disease caused by bacteria
atrophy wasting away or weakening of muscles
rigor mortis the muscular hardness of death
myasthenia gravis a chronic progressive neuromuscular weakness
leiomyoma a benign tumor of smooth muscle
bursa a sac-like cavity filled with synovial fluid and located over bony prominences
Pain in a muscle myalgia
Contraction of sternocleidomastoid muscle, causing rotation of the head. torticollis
A nervous system disorder characterized by four muscular features. Parkinson disease
A cyst on a joint capsule or tendon sheath. ganglion
atony Lack of normal tone or strength
bursitis Inflammation of a bursa
cramp Sustained spasm or contraction of a muscle accompanied by severe, localized pain
dystonia Dyskinetic movements due to disordered tonicity of muscle
Dupuytren’s contracture Painless thickening and contracture of the palmar fascia
fasciculations Repetitive, involuntary contraction of muscle (tremors)
fibromyalgia Group of rheumatic disorders characterized by achy pain, tenderness, and stiffness
myofascial pain syndrome Chronic condition affecting the fascia, or connective tissue covering muscles
fibromyositis Chronic inflammation of a muscle with hyperplasia of connective tissue
ganglion Thin-walled band cyst formed on a joint capsule or tendon sheath
muscular dystrophy Genetic abnormality of muscle tissue characterized by dysfunction and ultimately deterioration
myalgia Muscle pain
myopathy Any disease of the muscles
myositis ossificans A disease characterized by bony deposits or the ossification of muscle tissue
paralysis The loss of nervous control of a muscle
plantar fasciitis Excessive pulling or stretching of the calcaneal periosteum by the plantar fascia
polymyositis Autoimmune disorder which causes atrophy and weakness of the muscles
tendinitis Inflammation of a tendon or the synovial lining of a tendon sheath
tenosynovitis Inflammation of the tendon and the tendon sheath
tennis elbow Inflammation, soreness, or pain on the outside side of the upper arm near the elbow
lateral and medial epicondylitis Condition characterized by weakness and pain in the muscles and tendons of the outside elbow
