What are human factors?

QuestionAnswer
human factors aka ergonomics scientific discipline concerned with understanding interactions among humans and other elements of a system in order to optimise human well-being and overall system performance (things affecting human performance)
human factors model 1 shows patient safety depends on whole healthcare system not just individual staff including: individual (staff), team (non technical skills), task (eg paperwork), organisation (trust), and state (government)
explain the outcome - process - contributory factors process outcome (what happened) -> process (how it happened) -> contributory factors (underlying reasons why it happened)
solutions for human factors interventions (actions such as simplifying a process and removing unnecessary steps)
questions to test the effectiveness of solution for human factors in existence? accessible? valid? reliable? usable for different audiences in different areas? user tested?
key lessons from this lecture everyone makes mistakes so create systems where its hard to make mistakes and a culture where everyone feels able to speak up if they think something is wrong
