Europe Middle Ages

| Middle Ages | — The period in European history from about 500 to 1500 AD when kingdoms, castles, and the Catholic Church were very important. |
| Monasteries | — Buildings or communities where monks or nuns live, work, and pray; places for learning, copying books, and helping the local community. |
| Franks | — A group of Germanic people who settled in what is now France and western Germany; their kings helped shape medieval Europe. |
| Eurasia | — The large landmass made up of Europe and Asia together. |
| Charlemagne | — King of the Franks who became emperor around 800 AD; he expanded his empire, supported learning, and united much of western Europe. |
| Vikings | — People from Scandinavia who traveled by ship across Europe between about 800–1100 AD to trade, raid, and settle in new lands. |
| Medieval — | — A word that means “relating to the Middle Ages”; used to describe people, places, or things from that time. |
| Scandinavia | — The region in northern Europe that today includes Norway, Sweden, and Denmark (and sometimes Finland and Iceland); homeland of the Vikings. |
| Monks | — Men who live in monasteries and dedicate their lives to religious study, work, and prayer. |
| Clovis | — An early king of the Franks (late 400s–early 500s) who united many Frankish tribes and helped spread Christianity in his kingdom. |
| Ural Mountains | A mountain range in Russia that forms a traditional boundary between the continents of Europe and Asia. |
