What is Endoscopy ? visual examination of interior structures of the body using an endoscope.
Why are endoscopes used ? Routine screenings ,Diagnostic treatment, Therapeutic treatment
what are routine screenings? routine screening ex: colonoscopies are recommended every 10 years beginning at the age of 50 years old.
What are diagnostic treatments? to determine the source of pain or bleeding, obtain biopsy specimens, etc.
What are therapeutic treatments? Ex: polyp removal (polypectomy), stone removal, etc.
Regulatory agencies include : -U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). -U.S Food & Drug Administration (FDA. -Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC)
Standards-setting organizations include (PART 1): - Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). -Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).
Standards-setting organizations include (PART 2): - Association for Professionals in Infection Control & Epidemiology (APIC). -Society of Gastroenterology Nurses & Associates (SGNA)
What is Biofilm ? A collection of microorganisms that attach to surfaces and each other to form a colon, which; produces a protective gel that is very difficult to penetrate w/ detergents & disinfectants
