Civil Disobedience A refusal to follow laws, usually to make the government change.
Gestapo Nazi regime’s secret police.
Atheism The belief that there is no God.
Gulag Forced labor camps that existed in the Soviet Union between the 1920s and the 1950s.
Fascism The idea that the state is the supreme power.
Totalitarianism A type of government that uses force to enstate policy, religion, and culture.
Famine Extreme lack of food in a region or area, usually for long periods of time.
Apartheid Racial segregation in South Africa after WWII.
Nationalization The process of the government taking privately owned businesses or industries.
Negritude (Movement) A literary movement to fight colonialism and assimilation.
Good Neighbor Policy Redirecting funds from Latin American aid toward domestic programs.
The Great Purge A period in the Soviet Union where all opposition to Stalin was purged.
Collectivization (of agriculture) A policy put forth by Stalin in order to make all farms state owned.
Anti-Semitism Hostility towards Jewish people.
Blitzkrieg The use of heavy tanks, equipment, and planes, from behind enemy lines.
Authoritarian A government that favors the power to be the held by just one or a small group of people.
