Enuresis Involuntary urination; bed-wetting, without intention
Cystoptosis Downward displacement of the bladder
Arteriosclerosis Hardening of the arteries
Atherosclerosis Atheroma in arteries; porridge/sticky plaque buildup of fats within inner lining of an artery wall;. hardening of an artery due to fatty plaque buildup
Acromegaly Enlargement of extremities; such as hands, feet, body limbs
Superior vena cava A large-diameter vein that gathers/receives blood from the upper portion of the body and returns it to the heart.
Chambers of heart and where are they? Right atrium, Left atrium (upper chambers), Right ventricle, Left ventricle (lower chambers)
Menarche Beginning of first menstruation; first menstrual period
Hysterorrhexis Rupture of the uterus
Teratoma Another term for dermoid cyst; ovarian cyst that contains skin, sometimes teeth, hair, bones
Incontinence Inability to control urination
Hematuria Blood in the urine; Bloody urination
Cystoplegia Bladder paralysis
Hyperkalemia Excessive potassium in the blood
Ketolysis Breakdown of ketones
Cystoscopy Process for examining or looking at the bladder
Meatoscope Instrument for examining the opening of the urethra
Resectoscope Instrument for examining and cutting (usually the prostate)
Diuresis Excessive urination
Vas Deferens Vessel carrying sperm from the testicles
Cystorrhexis Rupture of the bladder
Hemodialysis Procedure for removing waste from the bloodstream
aphagia Inability to eat
Jaundice Yellowing of skin, tissues, and fluids caused by increased levels of bilirubin in the blood
Hernia Rupture or protrusion of an organ through the wall that normally contains it
Steatorrhea Excessive fat discharged in the feces
Ascites Retention or abnormal buildup fluid in the peritoneal cavity of the abdomen
Cholecystogram Record the bile (gall) bladder
Fistula Any abnormal passageway in the body that shouldn't be there
Cholelithotripsy Crushing of bile (gall) stones
Apnea Cessation of breathing, stop of breathing
Hemoptysis Coughing up blood
Cyanosis A bluish color in the skin, lips caused by insufficient oxygen
Atelectasis Incomplete expansion
Pneumothorax Air in the chest
Spirometry Procedure to measure breathing
Thoracentesis Puncture of the chest
Hemorrhage Loss of blood; to bleed profusely
Inferior vena cava Portion of the vena cava (vein) that gathers/receives blood from the lower portion of the body and returns it to the heart
Embolism Blockage in a blood vessel caused by an embolus
Embolus Mass of matter present in the blood
Ischemia Blockage of blood flow to an organ
Occlusion Closing or blockage of a passage or blood vessel; complete obstruction
Thrombus A blood clot
Vasospasm Involuntary contraction of a blood vessel
Venospasm Involuntary contraction of a vein; root is vein
Diastolic pressure Pressure exerted on blood vessels when heart is relaxed; bottom number (dystole)
Systolic pressure Pressure exerted on blood vessels when heart is contracting; top number (systole)
Subluxation Partial dislocation of a joint
