Kshatriyas The warrior and aristocrat social class of the caste system.

Sudras Caste that made up most of the Indian population; most were peasants and manual laborers; they had limited rights in society
Untouchables LOWEST LEVEL OF INDIAN SOCIETY; not considered a real part of the caste system; often given degrading jobs; their life was extremely difficult. Considered unclean.
Karma (Hinduism and Buddhism) the effects of a person's actions that determine his destiny in his next incarnation
Rig Veda Hinduism's oldest sacred text
Shiva A Hindu god considered the destroyer of the world.
Vishnu A Hindu god considered the preserver of the world
Brahma A Hindu god considered the creator of the world.
Ashoka Leader of the Mauryan dynasty of India who conquered most of India but eventually gave up violence and converted to Buddhism.
Chandragupta the founder of the Maurya Empire. Chandragupta succeeded in bringing together most of the Indian subcontinent. As a result, Chandragupta is considered the first unifier of India and the first genuine emperor of India.
Mauyran Empire Empire in classical times that was founded by Chandragupta Mauyra and reached its peak under Ashoka.
Buddhism Belief system that started in India in the 500s BC. Happiness can be achieved through removal of one's desires. Believers seek enlightenment and the overcoming of suffering.
Indo-Aryans Indo-European tribes who moved in slow waves into India in about 1750 B.C.
