| Levees | A wall of earth that is built to prevent a river from flooding. |
| Sumerians | An Ancient people who moved down from the foothills of the Zagros mountains to the plains oat the mouth of Persian Gulf in between the Tigris and Euphrates. |
| Gilgamesh | An epic poem told by a hero king who described his adventures in search of eternal life. He encountered a flood and made a best friend. |

| Akkadians | The first group of people that attacked the Sumerains and created the world's first empire. |
