Chapter 5 Cardiovascular System Terminonlogy

TermDefinition
Anemia a lower-than-normal number of erythrocytes (RBC) in the blood
Atrial Fibrillation A-Fib, the normal rhythmic contractions of the atria are replaced by rapid, irregular twitching of heart wall
Cardiac Catheterization diagnostic procedure in which a catheter is passed in a vein or artery and then guided into the heart
Coronary Thrombosis is damage to the heart muscle caused by a thrombus blocking a coronary artery
Ischemic Heart Disease a group of cardiac disabilities resulting from an insufficient supply of oxygenated blood to the heart
Phlebitis inflammation of a vein
Raynaud's Disease a peripheral arterial occlusive disease in which intermittent attacks are triggered by cold or stress
Orthostatic Hypotension postural hypotension, is low blood pressure that occurs upon standing up
Thrombotic Occlusion is blocking of an artery by a thrombus (thrombus blockage)
Ventricular Fibrillation V-Fib, rapid, irregular, and useless contractions of the ventricles; hear quivers
Ventricular Tachycardia a very rapid heartbeat that begins within the ventricles
