Hematology Hematology is the branch of medicine that studies blood, The root hemat/o means blood, and the suffix -logy mean "the study of"Hematologists diagnose and treat conditions such as anemia, leukemia.
Gastroenteritis Gastroenteritis refers to the inflammation of both the stomach and intestines, caused by infection or food poisoning. The roots gastr/o for stomach and enter/o for intestines, along with the suffix -itis, meaning inflammation, form the term.
Hypoglycemia Hypoglycemia is a medical condition in which a person has abnormally low blood sugar levels. The prefix hypo- means “below” or “deficient,” the root glyc/o means sugar, and the suffix -emia refers to a blood condition.
Osteopathy Osteopathy is a type of medical practice that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of bone-related diseases. The root oste/o means bone, and the suffix -pathy means disease.
Dermatitis Dermatitis is the inflammation of the skin caused by allergic reactions, irritants, or infections. The root dermat/o means skin, and the suffix -itis indicates inflammation. Symptoms often include redness, itching, and swelling.
Bradycardia Bradycardia refers to a slower-than-normal heart rate, usually fewer than 60 beats per minute. The prefix brady- means slow, the root cardi/o refers to the heart, and the suffix -ia indicates a condition.
Hyperthyroidism Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces excessive hormones, leading to increased metabolism. The prefix hyper- means excessive, the root thyroid/o refers to the thyroid gland, and the suffix -ism indicates a condition.
Nephrectomy Nephrectomy is the surgical removal of a kidney. The root nephr/o means kidney, and the suffix -ectomy means surgical removal. This procedure may be performed due to kidney cancer, severe infection, or trauma.
Subcutaneous Subcutaneous refers to a layer of tissue located beneath the skin. The prefix sub- means under or below, the root cutane/o refers to skin, and the suffix -ous means pertaining to.
Endoscopy Endoscopy is a procedure that allows doctors to visually examine the inside of the body using a flexible tube with a camera. The prefix endo- means within, and the suffix -scopy means visual examination.
