Skeletal System: Med Specialties, Pathology, Conditions/Curvature of the Spine

| Chiropractor | specializes in the manipulative treatment of disorders originating from misalignment of the spine |
| Orthopedic Surgeon | specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders involving bones, joints, and muscles |
| Osteopath | uses traditional forms of medical tx in addition to specializing in treatment of health problems by spinal manipulation |
| Podiatrist | specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the foot |
| Rheumatologist | specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and disorders: osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, and tendinitis |
| Ankylosis | loss or absence of mobility in a joint due to disease, injury or a surgical procedure |
| Atherosclerosis | stiffness of the joints, especially in the elderly |
| Bursitis | is an inflammation of a bursa |
| Hemarthrosis | is blood within a joint |
| Kyphosis | is an abnormal increase in the outward curvature of the thoracic spine as viewed from the side |
| Lordosis | is an abnormal increase in the forward curvature of the lumbar spine |
| Scoliosis | is abnormal lateral (sideways) curvature of the spine |
| Osteoporosis | a severe decrease in bone density due to the bone becoming more porous (holey). Common in aging and post-menopausal women. Calcium and prescription meds are necessary to prevent fx. |
| Osteopenia | a small decrease in bone density. Precursor to developing osteoporosis |
| Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) | responds to 9-1-1, assess, stabilizes, and transports patients to hospital |
| Paramedic | an EMT with additional training, authorized to provide advance pre-hospital treatment, in-depth patient assessment, EKG interpretation, and drug administration |
