ECG Electrocardiogram Definition: A test that records the electrical activity of the heart.
MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging Definition: A scan that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of organs and tissues.
CBC Complete Blood Count Definition: A blood test that measures red and white blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets.
BP Blood Pressure Definition: The force of blood against the walls of arteries.
CPR CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Definition: An emergency procedure performed to manually preserve brain function during cardiac arrest.
mg milligram Definition: A unit of measurement for medicine dosage.
hr hour Definition: A unit of time used in medical instructions.
Rx Prescription Definition: An order for medication or treatment written by a licensed healthcare provider.
qd Every day (Latin: quaque die) Definition: Indicates that medication should be taken once daily.
NPO Nothing by Mouth (Latin: nil per os) Definition: Instructs that a patient should not eat or drink, usually before surgery or tests.
Alzheimer’s Disease Definition: A progressive neurological disorder causing memory loss and cognitive decline.
Parkinson’s Disease Definition: A disorder of the nervous system that affects movement and balance.
Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Definition: A type of cancer affecting the lymphatic system, named after Thomas Hodgkin.
Lou Gehrig’s Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Definition: A progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
Fallopian Tube Definition: A pair of tubes in the female reproductive system that transport eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.
Myocardium Definition: The muscular tissue of the heart.
Aorta Definition: The largest artery in the body that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body.
Ventricle Definition: One of the two lower chambers of the heart that pump blood out of the heart.
Atrium Definition: One of the two upper chambers of the heart that receive blood returning to the heart.
Coronary Artery Definition: An artery that supplies blood to the heart muscle itself.
