Common tests that are run on EDTA ( lavender/pink ) tube CBC, Hemoglobin A1c:, Blood Typing & Antibody Screening
Heparin (green) tube a blood collection tube containing anticoagulant heparin (sodium or lithium) to prevent clotting ,producing either whole blood or plasma for analysis without clotting.
Common tests that are run on Heparin (green) tube Routine Chemistry, Blood Gas Analysis (ABG), Emergency Panels, and Osmotic Fragility Tests
Sodium Fluoride tube (gray) a specialized blood collection tube used primarily for glucose and lactate testing, containing sodium fluoride as a preservative to stop red blood cells from consuming sugar (glycolysis) after collection, ensuring accurate glucose levels
Common tests that are run on Sodium Fluoride (gray)tube Fasting Blood Glucose, Glucose Tolerance Tests, Lactate Testing
Poor choices for a fingerstick The thumb, pointer finger and the pinkie
Capillary tubes are also called microhematocrit capillary tubes
Hematocrit the percentage of cells in the blood sample
Osteochondritis a joint condition where a piece of bone and its overlying cartilage separates from the underlying bone
Osteomyelitis Bone infection causing painful inflammation of the bone or bone marrow
