Epidemic & Pandemic

Asepsis absence of microorganisms obtained through aseptic procedures which help eliminate pathogens
Common-source Outbreaks individuals are infected from the same source at the same time, such as contaminated food at a restaurant
Epidemics sudden outbreak of a disease affecting a particular region, community or population
Epidemiologist individual who studies an area of epidemiology
Epidemiology study of the distribution and determinants of diseases or disorders
Immunization preventative medical intervention given to protect individuals from a disease
isolation practice of separating individuals who have contagious diseases from the rest of the population
Mixed Outbreak outbreak including both common-source and propagated characteristics
Outbreak infectious diseases which spread rapidly across populations
Pandemic infectious diseases which spread across multiple populations or geographic areas
Propagated Outbreak diseases passed between individuals through direct contact, vehicle-borne transmission or vector-borne transmission
Public Health science of preventing epidemics and pandemics and improving the health of populations
Quarantine practice of separating individuals or reducing the movement of individuals who may have been infected with a contagious disease
Vaccine Resistance populations with hesitance toward receiving vaccinations
Vulnerable Population individuals who are more susceptible to contracting illnesses based on personal characteristics or living situations
World Health Organization (WHO) responsible for notifying the public of disease cases and providing pandemic preparedness plans
