What is a Priest? One who sacrifices to God to show love for God and others
Type of Christ? A person in the Old Testament who foreshadows or prefigures Christ in the New Testament
What is faith? the theological virtue that enables us to believe and accept all that God has revealed.
Why is Abraham called our father in faith? Because he responded to God’s call by choosing to act as a faithful believer in God’s Word. We share in the covenants God made with Abraham
What is necessary for is to live someday in Heaven with God? Faith
How are we called to share in God’s covenant of love? By loving as He loves
What three religions call Abraham their father in faith? Islam, Judaism and Christianity
What are the 7 corporal works of mercy? 1. Feed the hungry 2. Give drink to the thirsty 3. Clothe the naked 4. Shelter the homeless 5. Visit the sick 6. Visit the imprisoned 7. Bury the dead
How did God show his merciful love after the people of Babel were scattered? By tellling Abraham to form a new nation that became Israel.
How long ago did Abraham live? More than 4000 years ago.
How have we come to know about Abraham’s world? Archeologists discovered clay tablets in Ur, Elba and Nuzi and from the Bible
Where was Abraham born? Ur
Did the people in Abraham’s world know the one true God? No they practiced polytheism (worshipped many Gods)
By what name was Abraham first called and what is its meaning? Abram which means father.
How did Abraham respond to God’s call? He left home because God told him to.
What are the promises that God made at various times to Abraham? God said he would make him a great nation and God promises that Abraham will have many descendants multiple times
What is polygamy? Having more than one wife at a time
What is the name of the son to be given to Abraham and Sarah’s son and why? Issac because it means laughter and Sarah laughed when God told her she would have a son at such an old age.
What visible sign of faith did God ask of Abraham and his descendants? They had to be circumcised.
What sign of membership in God’s family did Jesus give to us? The sacrament of Baptism
How did Abraham show hospitality to his visitors? By feeding them and giving them drink
How did the Dead Sea get its name? No animals or fish can live in it because it has so much salt.
What caused the physical destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? An earthquake and an explosion of gasses mixed with sulfur and asphalt destroyed the cities because the people in the cities would chose to reject God..
How did the people of Sodom and Gomorrah hurt their relationship with God and each other? They rejected God and were evil and wicked to each other.
How did God show his merciful love in the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? By agreeing to spare the cities if Abraham found innocent people and ultimately saving Lot and Lot’s family.
What is the lesson of Sodom and Gomorrah? Never reject God
What was the extraordinary way in which Abraham showed his faith in and love for God? He was going to sacrifice his son
How are we called to share in God’s covenant? We can show our love for God by acting in his image
Who is our father in faith and why? Abraham because he started the faith.
Why is Isaac called a type of Christ? Because he was to be sacrificed to God as Jesus was.
What are the corporal works of mercy Abraham performed? He fed gave drink to the hungry visitors
What does vocation mean? ”to call” - it is what God calls you to do in life.
