Stone Age First period of prehistoric human culture, from about 2.5 million years ago to around 3,000 BCE when humans made tools out of stone
Paleolithic Age The first period of the Stone Age, called the "Old Stone Age" from about 2.5 million years ago to around 8,000 BCE
Neolithic Age The later part of the Stone Age, called the New Stone Age, from about 8500 to 3000 BCE when people began to settle down and start farming
hunter-gatherer a person who gets their food by hunting wild animals and gathering wild plants, roots, nuts, and berries
domesticate to train a wild animal or plant to become more useful to humans
agriculture the business of farming (raising plants and animals for human use)
specialized to have a specific purpose or job
trade the business of buying and selling, or exchanging, items
obsidian black volcanic glass - a natural resource often used in early trade
ore any type of mineral mined for its valuable uses
Catal Hoyuk A neolithic agricultural settlement excavated in modern-day Turkey
Jericho A Neolithic agricultural settlement excavated in modern-day Israel
