Consuls Served as chief executive who ran the government and act as military commanders.
Checks And Balances System that prevents government from being to powerful.
Censors Registered citizens according to their wealth.
Plebeians All the other citizens of Rome not of the aristocratic class.
Legions Most important military unit of the Roman army.
Paterfamilies Father of a Roman family who had absolute authority.
Indemnity Compensations paid to a nation for damages inflicted on it, as in war. (money for damages)
Latifundia Very Large Estates
Pax Romana Formed by Roman peace from the beginning of Augustus's reign until death of Marcius Aurelius.
Aqueducts Bridge like structures that carried water.
Inflation Rise in prices and the decrease in the value of the medium of exchange.
Pompey Member of the first triumvirate along with Caesar a Crassus.
Hadrian Trojan successor who built boardifications on a wall along the fronter known as "Hadrian wall."
Marcus Aurelious Last of the good emperors of Rome.
Commodus The weak spoiled son of Marcus Aurelius.
Alaric Became king of the Visigoths, captured Rome, and sacked the city.
Romulus Augustus Last Roman emperor in the west his overthrow was referred to as the fall of the Roman emperor.
Praetors Officials that command army's in times of war and oversees the legal system in times of peace.
Colonus Name for the tenant farmer
Martyrs People put to death because of what they believed.
Patriarchs Bishops of Roman cities.
Spartacus The slave that lead a very brutal slave revolt.
