Medical Terminology

TermsDefinition
Osteomyelitis Inflammation of the bone and bone marrow.
Osteoarthritis Degenerative joint disease caused by the breakdown of cartilage.
Myoma A benign tumor of muscle tissue.
Arthroplasty Surgical repair or replacement of a joint.
Ankylosis Abnormal stiffening or immobility of a joint due to fusion of bones.
Neuropathy Disease or dysfunction of the nerves.
Encephalopathy Any disease or disorder of the brain.
Meningitis Inflammation of the protective membranes (meninges) covering the brain and spinal cord.
Neuralgia Sharp or severe nerve pain
Electroencephalogram (EEG) A recording of electrical activity in the brain
Tympanoplasty Surgical repair of the eardrum
Otitis media Inflammation or infection of the middle ear
Keratitis Inflammation of the cornea of the eye.
Rhinitis Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose
Dermatitis Inflammation of the skin.
