Motion to open debate Used to begin a committee session
Motion to open the speaker list This is done at the beginning of conferences and at the beginning of each new topic. The speakers list will usually be kept open after this.
Motion to set the agenda Used to set the order in which you will debate topics in committee; used at 2 day conferences
Point of information Used to ask another delegate a question
Point of order When something in procedure is not correct and needs correction; used scarcely
Point of inquiry Used to ask the dias a question in conference (to ask the chair a question)
Point of personal privilege Used when a delegate needs to bring a physical issue to the dias
Motion for a moderated caucus Motioned for when a delegate wants to speak on a specific topic with a set speaking time
Motion for an unmoderated caucus Used when you need to have an informal debate session; allows you to go around the room and talk to delegates for a period of time
Motion to introduce a working paper Used when you are ready for the chair to review your working paper for it to be considered as a draft resolution
Motion to close debate/Motion to move into voting procedure Used when you are ready for the committee to move into voting procedure on a draft resolution
Motion to suspend debate Used when it is time for committee break (lunch, break, etc.)
Motion to adjourn the meeting Last motion of a conference; ends the committee session for the day
