| Skin | The body’s natural covering, and it consists of all four types of tissue working together. There are two skin layers—the epidermis and the dermis |
| The dermis | the inner layer of skin and is made up of connective tissue. Blood vessels, nerves, sweat and oil glands, and hair roots are found in the dermis |
| The epidermis | the outer layer and contains living and dead cells arranged in specific layers. As the cells divide, creating newer cells, the older cells are pushed toward the surface, where they eventually die. Dead cells constantly flake off and are replaced by living cells |
| pigment | The living cells of the epidermis contain pigment, which gives skin its color |
| organ of elimination | Through perspiration, the skin eliminates cellular metabolism waste materials such as urea and other unwanted chemicals that may have accumulated in the perspiration. |
