Medical language is made up primarily of words taken from what two ancient languages? Greek and Latin
What does Eponym mean? "to put your name on something" ex: Lou Gehrig's disease
What does Acronym mean? "to make a name with the ends" This means a word made up of the first letters of each of the word that make the phrase. Ex: Magnetic Resonance Imagine or MRI
Where were the foundations of Western medicine? Ancient Greece and Rome
Who is considered to be the "Father of Western Medicine"? Hippocrates
How do you know what syllable to emphasize? Usually its the last 3 syllables.
What is the last syllable, second-to-last syllable and third to last syllable each called? Ultima-last syllable Penult- second to last syllable Antepenult- Third to last
how is the letter C pronounced when its before and A, O or U? K example: Cardiac, Contra, Cut
how is the letter C pronounced when its before E, I or Y? S example: Cephalic, Cilium, Cyst
how is CH pronounced? K example: chiropractor
How is G pronounced when it is before A, O or U? G example: Gamma, Goiter, Gutta
How is G pronounce when it is before E, I or Y? J example: genetic, giant, biology
How is PH pronounced? F example: pharmacy
How is PN pronounced? N example: Pneumonia
How is PT pronounced when its the first letters? T example: Pterigium
How is RH or RRH pronounced? R example: Rhinoplasty, Hemorrhage
How is X pronounced when its the first letter? Z example: Xeroderma
