| location | Where a place is found on a map or globe |
| latitude | Horizontal lines on a map or globe that tell location in degrees North or South |
| longitude | Vertical lines on a map or globe that tell location in degrees East or West |
| place | Human and physical characteristics of a place such as size, shape, climate, physical features, and people |
| human - environment interaction | The way humans and the environment interact with each other, including how people use and change the land, where people live, and why they live there |
| movement | The movement of people, goods, and ideas |
| imports | Goods coming into a place |
| exports | Goods going out of a place |
| push factors | Reasons people leave a place |
| pull factors | Reasons people move to a place |
| region | An area with shared human or physical characteristics |
| formal region | Defined formally (countries, states) |
| functional region | A central place and surrounding area |
| perceptual region | Defined by people's perceptions ("Bible Belt") |
