planes of the body

TermDefinition
frontal (coronal) plane vertical plane dividing the body or structure into anterior and posterior portions
sagittal (lateral) plane lengthwise vertical plane dividing the body or structure into right and left sides
EXTRA: midsagittal plane divides the body into the right and left halves (lateral chest x-ray film is taken here)
transverse (axial) plane horizontal plane running across the body parallel to the ground
