Timolol - Eye drops treat +eye pressure, open-anglw glaucoma. watch for eye irritations, heart/lung conditions. MOA: reduces fluid to eyes
Dantrolene MOA: No Ca release in skeletal muscles Ind. Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Prevent Hyperthermia, cereb. accident Contra. Ind: Liver failure Reactions: muscle weak, drowsy, dizzy, diar, liver tox, photosensi
Methotrexate {r}arthritis, psoriasis, cancer. anti.imflammatory agent. N/V, fatigue, mouth sores, liver, lung, blood disorders. no breastfeeding. immunosuppresant.
Alendronate osteoporosis. no take with esoph. disorders/difficulty swallowing. sit upright for 30 mins, no antiacids/calcium supp in that 30 mins. no hypocalcemia, renal. MOA: inhiit osteoclasts and bone resorption.
Cromolyn preventative for resp. inhibit release of inflammatory. mast cell stabilizer. may cause nasal congestrion, sneezing, throat irritation when inhaled and diarrhea, headache.
Theophylline asthma, COPD, bronchitis, emphysema. reaxes muscles in airway. inhibits PDE. n/v/headachem insomnia, seizures, arythmias. diuteric?
Prednisone mimicks cortisol. reduces iflammation, immune suppressor. crohn's, IBS, autoimmune, allegies, blood/marrow conditions, endocrine, cancer, organ transplant rejection. weight gain, +appetite, insomnia, mood changes, Hypertens, abd pain, +infections.
Lidocaine local ansthetic. blocks influx of Na into nerve membranes. Blocks pain recptors. diz, drowz, n/v feeling hot/cold, confusion, tenitis, vision change, numbness, low BP, swelling/redness. skn irritation, lo resp rate, CP arythmias, seizures
Methylphenidate MOA - +dopamine and norepinephrine lvls in brain Ind. ADHD, Norcolepsy Last dose @ 4pm, watch for insomnia, taper off
Fluticasone/salmeterol MOArevent inflammation,dec. airway mucosal edema, no mucus prod. in airway. Asthma, COPD. not rescue med. long-term management of symtpoms. thrush/oralcandidas, headache, couch, seizures, heart problems. no preggy/nursing. checkup for heart, osteoporosis
Diphenhydramine anti histamine. cold sympt, allgeries, motion sickness, itchiness. sympts: drowsy, diz, loss of coorination, dry mouth, nose, throat, constip, GI issue, dry eys, blrrd vision, daytime drowsy. no ETOH, no children under 2. no BP meds, antidep, slping meds
Selegiline parkinson's, Major Dep. dis. MAOI. No opiods. changes in BP, n/ diz, impulse beh.
Acetylcystein prevents/reduce liver damage following OD on tylenol. thins mucus in airways. cycstic fibrosis. side effects: +coughing, mouth sores, n/v fever, runny nose, clammines, chest tightness, wheezing jaundice.
Phenytoin (suspension form) Seizure control, Narrow therapeutic range. Increase risk for toxicity. Beware of gingival hyperplasia. Dental care very important. CNS depressant, NO valproic acid MOA: Excessive doses inhibit CNS; crosses BBB, extensively protein bound
Donepezil MOA: slows breakdown of acetylcholine in brain; Ind. Alzheimer's Dementia Watch for GIB, drowsy; take with food - GI upset.
Albuterol prevent bronchospasm. uses: asthma, bronchitis, emphsema. nervousness, shaki, headache, sore throat, muscle aches, tachy, palp. CP, dizzy, cough, GI upset.
Sumatriptan MOA: constricts Bld vessles, -pain signls in brain (CONSTRICT BV; THINK HEART) Notify provder for CP, back/jaw/throat tight risk of seratonin syndrome Ind: Migraines
Alprazolam anxiety, seizures, ETOH w/drawl. potential for dependance and abuse, no ETOH; flumazenil=reversal agent. Benzodiazepine, CNS depressant.
Buspirone Depression, anxiety, GAD; Multiple interactions, SS; Anxiolytic Balances dopamine and serotonin in the brain
Fluoxetine depression, OCD, bulimia nervosa, panic, PMDD, ETOH Dep. No ETOH! +suicidal ideation, mult. reactions, GT prolong, No NSAID, no preggy/nursing. Antidepressant/SSRI
Phenelzine MOAI. depression, panic, SocialAD. MOA: inhibit monoamine oxidase (which breaks down nice hormones). dizzy, headache, drowsy, weak, tremors, constip, dry mouth, weight gain, sex problems. No aged cheeses, fermented meats or alcohol.
Bupropion Depression, smoking cessation. No ETOH, hallucinations, suicidal ideation, insomnia, liver/kidney function, no abrupt stopping. +lvls dopamine and norepinephrine.
Lithium Bipolar disease, schizophrenia, psychosis. narrow therapeutic range--monitor, no caffeine/stress; monitor drowsiness, take with food, extrapyramidal symptoms; MOA not understood
Chlorphromazine schizophrenia, bipolar, prolonged hiccups; many contraindications/interactions, risk for EPS. Balances lvls of dopamine in brain.
