| Conquer | overcome and take control of (a place or people) by use of military force. |
| Depopulate | substantially reduce the population of (an area). |
| Exploration | the action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it. |
| Indigenous | (of people) inhabiting or existing in a land from the earliest times or from before the arrival of colonists. |
| Oral History | the collection and study of historical information using sound recordings of interviews with people having personal knowledge of past events. |
| Sacrifice | an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure. |
| Sponsor | provide funds for (a project or activity or the person carrying it out). |
| Transoceanic | crossing an ocean. |
| Turning Point | a time at which a decisive change in a situation occurs, especially one with beneficial results. |
| Ambassador | an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country. |
