Age of Exploration Vocabulary

Conquer overcome and take control of (a place or people) by use of military force.
Depopulate substantially reduce the population of (an area).
Exploration the action of traveling in or through an unfamiliar area in order to learn about it.
Indigenous (of people) inhabiting or existing in a land from the earliest times or from before the arrival of colonists.
Oral History the collection and study of historical information using sound recordings of interviews with people having personal knowledge of past events.
Sacrifice an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure.
Sponsor provide funds for (a project or activity or the person carrying it out).
Transoceanic crossing an ocean.
Turning Point a time at which a decisive change in a situation occurs, especially one with beneficial results.
Ambassador an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country.
Decimate kill, destroy, or remove a large percentage or part of.
Expedition a journey or voyage undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration, scientific research, or war.
Finance provide funding for (a person or enterprise).
Modify make partial or minor changes to (something), typically so as to improve it or to make it less extreme.
Polytheism the belief in or worship of more than one god.
Social Class a division of a society based on social and economic status.
Trade Network a system of interconnected pathways and routes used for the exchange of goods, services, and ideas between different locations or groups
Tribute an act, statement, or gift that is intended to show gratitude, respect, or admiration.
Voyage a long journey involving travel by sea or in space.
