NEO-CONFUCIANISM A revival of Confucianism during the Song Dynasty, incorporating elements of Buddhism and Daoism.

Caliphate A political and religious Islamic state led by a Caliph, considered the successor to the Prophet Muhammad.
Sultanate A political unit ruled by a Sultan, often a powerful Islamic state. a Muslim monarch
House of Wisdom A renowned center of learning and translation in Baghdad during the Abbasid Caliphate, where scholars studied various fields like mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy.
Seljuk Turks A nomadic Turkic people who established a powerful empire in the Middle East and Central Asia, known for their military prowess and patronage of the arts.
Urdu An Indo-Aryan language that developed in the Delhi Sultanate and became associated with the Mughal Empire.
Zheng He A Chinese naval officer and diplomat who led seven expeditions around the Indian Ocean in the 1400s, aiming to expand China's influence.
Angkor Wat A vast temple complex in Cambodia, initially built as a Hindu temple in the 12th century, later becoming a Buddhist site.
Tamerlane The name of the leader of the Timurid Empire, also known as Timur, who was a conqueror of much of Asia and parts of Europe in the 14th century.

Tenochtitlan: The capital city of the Aztec Empire, founded around 1325 CE on an island in Lake Texcoco (modern-day Mexico City).
Chinampas: Artificial islands in the Valley of Mexico, used for agriculture by the Aztecs.
Cahokia The largest Mississippian settlement, a major center of the Mississippian culture in North America.
Tawantinsuyu: The Inca Empire, encompassing a large region of South America (modern-day Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and parts of Chile, Argentina, and Colombia).
Chasquis The Inca runners, a system of messengers who carried messages (written on quipus, orally, or in packets) across the empire.
Quipu A system of knotted cords used by the Incas for record-keeping, communication, and potentially numerical calculations.
Mit'a: The Inca system of labor tribute, where individuals were required to perform various services for the state.
Pueblos: Native American settlements, especially in the Southwestern United States, known for their distinctive architecture.
