| Pope | the Bishop of Rome as head of the Roman Catholic Church. |
| Cardinal | a leading dignitary of the Roman Catholic Church. Cardinals are nominated by the Pope, and form the Sacred College which elects succeeding popes |
| Bishop | a senior member of the Christian clergy, usually in charge of a diocese and empowered to confer holy orders. |
| Archbishop | the chief bishop responsible for an archdiocese. |
| Monk | A man who separates himself from ordinary human society in order to dedicate himself to God |
| Monasticism | The practice of living as a monk |
| Priest | An important and powerful person who supervised rituals aimed at pleasing the gods and goddesses |
| Missionary | A person sent out to carry a religious message |
| Charlemagne | Charles the Great, a.d. 742–814, king of the Franks 768–814; as Charles I, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire 800–814. |
| Sacrament | Sacred act or a Religious ritual |
| Nun | A woman who separates herself from ordinary human society in order to dedicate herself to God |
| Monastery | a building or buildings occupied by a community of monks living under religious vows. |
