What would an office use to evaluate any hazards/ safety risks that might occur? A Checklist
What regulations is the GHS and SDS under? Federal, and State
What's the Global Harmonized System (GHS) used for? It's a standard way to classify and label chemicals to make it easier to understand.
What are the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) used for? It provides info about working with or handling a chx substance, it has 16 sections
What does section 1-8 of the SDS system compose of? General info about the chx, identification, Hazards, Composition, safe handling practices, & emergency control measures.
What does section 9-11, 16 of the SDS system compose of? Info on physical & chx properties, stability & reactivity info, toxicological info, exposure control info, when it was prepared, & date of last revision.
What does section 12-15 of the SDS system composed of? Its mainly used with the GHS.
What does the office use to notify a healthcare worker about the substance they are using? Pictograms
What does the CDC collect, and what is it used for? Collects data on pathogens & diseases; it establishes guidelines to prevent the spread of them.
What are universal precautions? Standard precautions; helps to create guidelines for contact w/ blood & body fluids --> AIDS and HIV
What is Point of care testing (POCT)? Performed out of the lab beside/near site of pt care & provides a rapid/ reliable result. Ex: Bg testing for diabetes, urine hcg test
What is Quality Assurance Testing? Refers to all evaluative services & the results compared w/ standards.
What are some examples for QA? Pt identification, pt prep & specimen collection, specimen processing & transportation, Instrumental & technical performance, safety, in-service training & education of health care personnel.
What is Quality Control (QC) Testing? Process that assesses testing procedures, reagents, & technique of the person performing the tests
What are some examples of QC? -Every test kit for CLIA waived test comes with reagents that describes how to perform a QC test, -These are then identified when done on the box & written down in a designated place to know when to do it again.
How should you be safe in the workplace personally? -Appropriate attire, -Knowing where & how to read SDS, -PPE, Know where fire extinguishers are & eye wash stations -UTD Immunizations, Dispose of sharps in puncture-proof sharps containers, - Know protocols for Bio waste
What are some key things to remember when cleanings up spills? -Make sure to know where you office's spill kits are, -They should have coag. powder and a scoop, - Bag contaminates clothes & materials in a leak-proof, labeled biohazard & place another bag, - After use disinfectant 1:2 bleach
What should you remember when cleaning dropped objects? Pick up with a broom & dustpan & place into sharps
When are fire walk-throughs done in the office? Done when first moving into an office & annually
How do you prevent a fire in the workplace? Unplug all devises possible when not in use,
What does the PASS acronym mean? -Pull the pin at the top of extinguisher -Aim at the base of the fire -Squeeze the handle slowly to release -Sweep at the base of the fire from side to side
