Pituitary known as hypophysis, located beneath brain, divied into 2 lobes
anterior pituitary releases 6 horomones
posterior pituitary releases 2 horomes
thyroid gland located in either side of the larynx and upper trachea, 2 lobes, secreates horomone mixture
parathyroid glands located at posterior surfaace of thyroid, affects calcuim metablosim
Adrenal glands horomones produced involve bodys stress response, located on each kidney, dived into 2 regions(outer cortex and inned medualla)
Pancreas Islet cells produce 2 horomones:insulin and glucagon
insulin increases cellular use of glucose, decreases blood sugar
glucagon Decreases cellular use of glucose, increases sugar levels
hyperthyroidism Commonly seen in graves disease, may result in goiter
cushing syndrome excess of sdrenal cortisol horomones, caused from tumor or steriod horomones
Diabetes mellitus most common endocrine disorder, 2 types
type 1 appears in childeren/teens, caused by failure of pancreatc islets to produce insulin
type 2 90% of cases, caused from cellular resisitance to insulin, usualy from obesity, adult onset
