Module 1 of Medical Terminology

TermDefinition
The S in SOAP represents what? Subjective, which refers to the patient's problems in their own words
The O in SOAP represents what? Objective, which is data that is comprised of the patient’s physical exam, any laboratory findings, and imaging studies performed at the visit.
The A in SOAP represents what? Assessment, assessment could be a diagnosis, an identification of a problem, or a list of possibilities for the diagnosis, known as a differential diagnosis.
The P in SOAP represents what? Plan, a course of action consistent with the assessment. The plan could be a treatment with medicine, a procedure, or collecting further data to help arrive at a more accurate diagnosis.

Sequela a problem resulting from a disease or injury
Etiology the cause
Palliative treating the symptoms but not actually getting rid of the cause
Caudal toward the bottom (base of skull)
Contralateral opposite side
Ipsilateral same side

Coronal divides the body into front and back
Transverse divides the body into top and bottom
PACU post-anesthesia care unit
NICU neonatal intensive care unit
