What are the two systems of the nervous system? Peripheral and central nervous systems
What does the peripheral nervous system do? collects data such as temperature, light, pain and pressure from its surroundings
What does the central nervous system do? processes the details from peripheral nervous system and formulates a response via nerves
What parts is the central nervous system composed of? the brain and spinal cord
What is the somatic nervous system? the voluntary command of the body's actions between the nervous system and musculoskeletal system
afferent neurons nerves going from senses to brain
efferent neurons nerves sending message from brain to body parts in response to afferent neurons- often to muscles at the neuromuscular junction
what is the autonomic nervous system? involuntary actions of the body that we do without conscious choice or awareness such as the beating of our heart. sweating and digesting food
