What was a charter? A document that gave the townspeople the right to self-govern laws and taxes

Black Death/Plague- What was it? A pandemic that killed 24 million people
Black Death/Plague-How did it spread? rats and fleas carried the disease; it was spread throughout Europe by trade
Black Death/Plague-How did it affect the economy (businesses)? Shops closed down and trading stopped
Why did feudalism come to an end? Many people died because of the Black Death/Plague. This left job opportunities which serfs on manors wanted. This, in effect, ended feudalism.
What is a Nation-State? A single ruler, army, set of written laws, and paid government officials
Who supported nation-states? Traders supported nation-states because they were protected by the army and could safely trade.
Who did NOT support nation-states? Nobles did not support nation-states because the king took away their power.
What is the Magna Carta? The Magna Carta is a document signed by King John that limits his power. The document states that the king must follow the same laws as everyone else making everyone equal.
