Culture and Civilization Terms

Culture The beliefs, customs, traditions and way of life of a people
Civilization the level of culture in a society; level of development of government, social organization, religion, landtuage and learning.
Language the spoken, written, or non-verbal form of communication for a people
Economic System the things that have value and how goods and services are distributed in a culture
Government the way in which a culture makes rules and laws and carries them out
Science knowledge of the world and the way things work
Religion a people's belief in a god or gods and their method of worship
Education how and what a culture teaches its people to survive and contribute to their civilization
Art the way a culture creatively expresses itself
Customs the way things are generally done and the traditions of a culture
Technology the use of science and knowledge to solve problems, make tools, or create a process
Social Beliefs/Values culture's beliefs about what is right or wrong and how people should relate to one another
Recreation the entertainment and leisure pursuits of a culture
Security the way a culture defends itself against threats and conducts warfare; law enforcement and military
Media the sources and methods of communication for information and entertainment in a culture
