Geography Culture Test Studying Tool
| Term | Definition |

| Culture | A way of life of a group of people who share similar customs and beliefs |
| Language | Human Communication that is separated into Written, Spoken and Signed |
| Religion | System of beliefs, ceremonies and rules. It helps determine values and the meaning of life |
| Monotheism | Believing in one god |
| Polytheism | Believing in more than one god |
| Social Groups | Structure to group people. It is a chain of demand and includes family roles, gender roles, and economic/political roles |
| Daily Life | Day To Day Activities. Includes, food, clothing, and housing. It reflects someone's culture, traditions, and values |
| Arts/Architecture | This shows what a culture values. Examples: Paintings, sculptures, music, dancing, and literature. |
| History | Past events, Leaders,, Successes, and failures. Helps determine what a culture values. EX: 9/11 |
| Government | Political system- decides how leaders are chosen, hierarchy of roles |
| Monarchy | A way of ruling passed down through family EX: Kings and Queens |
| Dictator | A lead who does whatever they want |
| Democracy | A leader chosen by the group of people that inhabit that country/place |
| Economy | How people earn a living, how they sell goods, and how they buy services and items from others. Always has a currency |
| Dialect | Local form of language that differs from the main language EX: accents and naming things differently |
| Traditions | a celebration from the past that people still practice today. Passed down through family generations |
| Values | Learned behaviors; Idea of right and wrong that are taught through family or society |
| Cultural Hearth | An area where important cultural ideas begin and spread to other areas |
| Cultural Diffusion | Process of spreading knowledge and skills to other cultures |
| Anthropologist | A scientist that studies the cultures of past and present to understand the complexity of cultures across all of human history |
| Diversity | The understanding that each person is unique and recognizes everyone's differences |
| Cultural Iceberg | The idea that some things are harder to tell from a person. Some things you can tell right away like what kind of clothing they wear but other things like their beliefs about religion, aren't shared too much |
