Plebeian a member of the Roman lower class

Pax Romana the period of peace and order throughout the Roman Empire that lasted for nearly 200 years and began with the first emperor Caesar Augustus

Coliseum a large theater or sports arena
Persecution harassment or oppression
Recession a time when trade and business fall off
Inflation a process that makes money more widely available and therefore less valuable
Byzantine Empire the name of the Eastern Roman Empire from about 330 A.D./C.E until its end in 1453 A.D./C.E.
Allah the name of God used by the followers of the religion Islam
Koran/Qur’an the holy scripture of Islam which Muslims believe was written by God (Allah) and dictated to Muhammad
Heritage customs and beliefs that people inherit from an earlier time, people, or culture
