| Sparta | a greek city-state that was ruled by an oligarchy and famous for its powerful military |
| Alliance | an agreement between two groups for to be helpful and non-hostile. |
| Alexander the Great | A greek conqueror that united Greece and built a large empire that controlled parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia |
| Plato | Greek philosopher famous for his school and for teaching Aristotle |
| Aristotle | Greek philosopher famous for its ethical theories and was the personal teacher to Alexander the Great |
| Persia | A large central asian empire that was the main rival to Greece |
| Hellenistic | a blended culture that combines elements of Greek, Egyptian, Persia, and India |
| Polis | the Greek word for a city-state. A city-state is a small country that controls a single city and the surrounding area. |
| Democracy | A form of government where people directly vote on rules and laws for society |
| Oligarchy | A form of government ruled by a small group of wealthy elites. |
| Monarchy | A form of government ruled by a single person who inherited his power |
| Tyranny | A form of government where a self-appointed ruler has absolute power |
